Every regulation, platform term of service, watermarking standard, and litigation milestone on this dashboard is sourced from a primary document — vendor ToS pages, court dockets, EUR-Lex, Congress.gov, state legislatures, and standards-consortium specifications. This page documents the sourcing standards and the specific sources of record we rely on.

Sourcing standards

Three principles govern what appears on this dashboard.

Primary source
Every record cites a first-party document: the statute, the docket entry, the vendor's published terms, or the standards-consortium specification. Secondary commentary is used only as a cross-reference.
Litigation
Case milestones are taken from court orders and PACER docket entries rather than press releases. Status reflects the most recent filing of record.
Platform claims
Training, ownership, indemnification, opt-out, and watermarking fields are taken from the vendor's customer-facing terms and policy pages. Where a vendor's terms are silent on a field, the record reads “not stated” rather than inferring intent.

Cross-jurisdictional and international policy bodies whose published guidance informs regulation status and cross-border enforcement context.

Used as a cross-reference for litigation milestones and ToS-change reporting. Any fact sourced from journalism is confirmed against a primary docket entry or vendor statement before it is recorded on the dashboard.

Tier 3 · Supplementary cross-reference

Legal analysis & advocacy

Law-firm client alerts, advocacy-group statements, and academic preprints are used only to surface novel framings or open interpretive questions — never as the source of record for a regulation, ToS field, or court ruling.

Frequency counts in parentheses reflect distinct URL citations in the dashboard's structured data files (regulations.json, platforms.json, watermarking.json, redflags.json). The full bibliography spans 219 unique domains; the list above shows sources cited three or more times. Single-citation sources are linked from individual record entries on the main dashboard.
